Buffalo Trace Distillery is continuing to pay homage to its former owner, Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr., with a special release Bourbon.
The latest whiskey from Buffalo Trace, named after its former owner, has been created using Amaranth as its flavouring grain and is a one-time-only release.
The Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr., Amaranth Bourbon Whiskey was aged over a decade and as well as using Amaranth, you will find corn from the Buffalo Trace mashbill #1 and malted barley added to the mix.
The team at Buffalo Trace chose to work with amaranth, a grain which was originally cultivated by the Aztecs and is known as "the grain of the gods". Although it is similar to wheat in many ways, amaranth offers a range of subtle flavours, starting with a butterscotch and spearmint nose to a nutty and fruity finish .
Amaranth Bourbon is the tenth release in the E.H. Taylor Jr., collection, joining the current roster, which includes the Single Barrel Bourbon, Barrel Proof Bourbon, Straight Rye Whiskey and Small Batch Bourbon.
The special release bottling of Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Amaranth Bourbon Whiskey will be available in late July at a retail price of $69.99 per 750ml bottle.
