Chattanooga Whiskey has announced the latest release in its Bottled in Bond Vintage Series: Spring 2020. Barreled from January 2020 through June 2020, this seasonally-inspired vintage was crafted to showcase the spring and summer inspired flavors imparted from the inclusion of multiple wheated mash bills in this blend—their 7th since 2021.
As with previous vintages, Spring 2020 was produced exclusively at Chattanooga Whiskey’s Riverfront Distillery and remains an ongoing collaborative effort for the entire distilling team. The intention, to create a new, seasonally inspired blend for each six-month distilling ‘season’ from the variety of bourbon recipes distilled within the vintage period.
Grant McCraken, founding distiller, commented: “Each distilling season, our entire grain-to-glass production team comes together to develop our newest Bottled in Bond vintage. Rather than solely using our signature "Barrel 91" recipe, the team gathers every unique mash bill that was distilled in the 6-month season and develops a blend to reflect the character of that time period."
McCraken further commented: "Although most of our distilling team's experimentation originates at our Experimental Distillery, we've never been afraid to make tweaks to certain recipes on the larger scale of our Riverfront Distillery. These more nuanced experiments not only provide the team with a deeper understanding of how our classic recipes "work" within our Riverfront Distillery, but – as a finished product - become a time capsule of what our team was thinking more than four years ago."
The Spring 2020 blend contains three versions of their acclaimed wheated recipe (B005, B005v2, B005v3) – which contain multiple varieties of malted wheat and malted barley never before used in this mash bill. These malted grains include Tennessee-grown malted wheat, honey malted barley, and a small amount of cherrywood smoked malted barley. The release was made in four batches of ten barrels each.
Chattanooga Whiskey Bottled in Bond Vintage Series: Spring 2020 (RRP $52.99) will be available at the Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery beginning 3 June 2024 and on shelves in select states in the following weeks.
