Made at the Chattanooga Experimental Distillery since the series launched in 2017, the Experimental Single Batch Series plays with different grains, barrels, techniques, and styles in limited releases.
Grant McCracken, chief product officer for Chattanooga Whiskey, commented: “Every recipe we make has its own story, and every one of those recipes starts with a “first ingredient”... Surprisingly, this wheated whiskey’s “first ingredient” happened to be one of the very first domesticated grains in human history!”
Batch 037 is a blend of two whiskey styles in a three-barrel batch, all made with the same grains (malted dinkel wheat, malted barley, and yellow corn). The malted dinkel wheat, which makes up just over half of the grains used overall, was toasted gently to ensure its historic character was preserved.
The whiskey was aged for more than four years in toasted and charred oak barrels to emphasize the “nutty, toasty, and bakery-like character” of the mash bills.
McCracken continued: “After the "first ingredient" is chosen, our distillers’ job is to “listen to the whiskey” before making their next selection. In effect, every successive ingredient is chosen to complement and/or enhance the character of the one that came before it… each build off of one another to form a wheated whiskey like no other, and uniquely Chattanooga Whiskey.”
Chattanooga recently won gold in the US round of the World Whiskies Awards 2024 for its new make spirit Silver. “From the very beginning of the distillation process, we’re dedicated to making world class spirits and are honored to see Silver recognized,” Chattanooga shared via Instagram. In 2023, Chattanooga was named Craft Producer of the Year in the Icons of Whisky.
