Blue Run Flight Series II is a six-whiskey micro-batch collection of Blue Run’s Kentucky Straight High Rye Bourbon.
Blue Run’s definition of micro-batch is that the whiskey must consist of at least two – but no more than five – barrels. Each of the six in the Flight Series consist of between three to four barrels of Blue Run’s flagship High Rye, blended by Shaylyn Gammon, the brand’s head of whiskey development and innovation.
The six releases in the series include:
- - #1 Biscayne Breeze (114.1 proof)
- - #2 Joshua Tree Sunrise (117 proof)
- - #3 Miami Sunset (115 proof)
- - #4 Santa Monica Pier (115.1 proof)
- - #5 Tahoe Powder (116 proof)
- - #6 Yosemite Pine (116.6 proof)
Flight Series II is said to exhibit unique characteristics of various Us-based distilleries, and are encouraging consumers to try all six flights in order to uncover the differences between each bourbon blend. The contract distilleries include Castle & Key, Bardstown Bourbon Company and another undisclosed.
Blue Run’s signature butterfly medallion on the Flight Series II bottle is blue Pearlized, featuring a blue tint.
Commenting on the release, Gammon said: “I envisioned these blends being enjoyed in a favorite outdoor setting, when nature is trying its hardest to capture your attention and deserves a toast in appreciation. This is why I conducted my sensory tests outside, since no whiskey fan is ever going to be experiencing their whiskey in a distillery laboratory. I fondly call this my ‘In Situ Whiskey’ because it was made, in part, where I thought it best to be enjoyed.”
