The ribbon has been cut, officially opening the Four Roses Visitor Center to the public.
The Four Roses Distillery was built in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky in 1910 after the brand was established in 1888 by Paul Jones. The Spanish Mission-style architecture was designed by Joseph & Joseph, which also designed the new facility to keep with the style of the campus.
Distillery tourism has continued to skyrocket in recent years, thanks to the popularity of America’s Native Spirit. Four Roses has also undergone an expansion in production capacity in recent years, more than doubling its capacity.
Additional rickhouses have been built at the Cox’s Creek warehousing facility, where barrel picks are done and also where a visitor center was added in 2014.
Tourism at Four Roses has risen 43% in the last five years, and in 2019 Four Roses welcomed nearly 85,000 guests from all 50 states and more than 45 countries.
Included in the new visitor center is a bar called 1888, named for the year Four Roses was founded as a brand by Paul Jones, four seated tasting rooms, additional capacity for specialized tastings, a massive new gift shop, and a patio for guests to enjoy the views.
Perhaps the most touching new addition to the Four Roses experience is the Al Young Archive Collection. Al Young, who passed away in late 2019, spent decades collecting and archiving Four Roses history, which culminated in the publication of his book on the subject. Included in the collection’s display are bottles of Four Roses throughout history, Al Young’s award from being inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame, and Four Roses memorabilia that Young collected throughout his decades working for the company.
“This new visitor’s center is another exciting accomplishment for Four Roses, the Anderson County community and Kentucky’s $8.9 billion tourism industry,” said Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. “Guests will be able to experience our world-famous, signature spirit with this historic distiller, a founding member of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. I want to thank the Four Roses team for their investment in this community and commitment to the Kentuckians and visitors from around the world who will walk through the doors here.”
Four Roses has won Icons of Whisky’s Whisky Distillery of the Year four times, and Master Distiller Brent Elliott won Master Distiller of the Year from Icons of Whisky in 2020. Four Roses also took the title of World’s Best Bourbon in the 2019 World Whiskies Awards.
