Dimensional Innovations (DI), an experience design, technology and fabrication firm, has completed a series of custom installations at RD1 Spirits’ new, two-story distillery in Lexington, RD1 Distillery at The Commons. The larger 10,215-square-foot space, part of a new development, aims to deliver an immersive visitor experience. The distillery includes a glass-enclosed research and development lab focused on wood finishing, a VIP speakeasy tasting room, and interactive elements throughout.

RD1 Spirits set out to upgrade from its former tasting room and gift shop location with new construction, three times the size of its former home. RD1 aims to provide guests with a unique and memorable guest experience in this new space.

DI has developed several unique design pieces that serve as the centerpiece of RD1 Distillery at The Commons, including a 7.5-foot bottle of bourbon, 14-foot tree structure, and a global map with neon lighting to help tell the story of Lexington’s bourbon history, innovation, and the brand’s focus on wood-finished bourbon. The installations were unveiled as part of the distillery’s grand opening events last week.

Mike Tetterton, CEO of RD1 Spirits, commented: “Dimensional Innovations helped bring our vision to life for RD1 Distillery at The Commons. DI’s creative design plan for the space and custom installations make our guest experience both educational and entertaining, and something completely unique to our brand. We’re thrilled to welcome visitors from throughout the world to a new experience of Kentucky bourbon and wood finishing.”

Inspired by bourbon's connection with oak, DI developed a custom palette that reflects the warmth of aged oak, charred barrels, and the brand’s signature copper elements. DI’s design work included storytelling displays on Lexington’s bourbon history, as well as RD1’s innovation, awards and press.

Spencer Farley, practice director for Dimensional Innovations, added: “During our creative collaboration process with RD1, we aimed to design a layout that could capture the rich history and distinct flavor that defines the brand’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon and wood finishes. What we landed on was a comprehensive storytelling experience that provides intrigue and excitement for locals, bourbon aficionados and visitors to the area looking to discover something completely new.”
