Independent Scotch whiskey bottler the Perfect Fifth has announced the release of a 14-year-old American whiskey in its Canongate line.
The new release is a cross-Atlantic effort; it was distilled in Bardstown, Kentucky in 2009 where it was aged for three years in the state. It was then sent to Scotland, where it aged for a further 11 years.
The Perfect Fifth was founded in 2019 by Karl Schoen, and named for the musical intervals, which reflect the ‘multiple layers’ of whiskey.
Speaking on the latest release, Schoen commented: “Distillers in the United States, in particular, Kentucky, have always had a harmonious relationship with Scotland, largely due to sending used bourbon barrels to Scotland for a second life, to mature spirits distilled in Scotland. Our Canongate expression, which is our ‘born and bottled’ line, is an ode to that symbiotic relationship.
“This series celebrates the long history of cask sharing between the two countries by selecting single cask whiskies distilled in the US, and aging and bottling them in Scotland. Our latest release, the Canongate 14 Year Old American Whiskey is not only well-traveled, but is a unique combination of the environments of Kentucky and Scotland.”
The 14 Years Old joins the 11 Years Old American Whiskey and Glentauchers 24 Years Old Scotch Whisky in the Canongate series. Canongate 14 Years Old is available in the US in a limited run of 232 bottles.
