It feels slightly ironic to be titling this weekly roundup as “the world as we know it now”, considering the majority of us haven’t got a clue what is going on from day-to-day at the moment and worlds have been turned upside-down overnight. It's a lot. What a week to begin a roundup on. What a week in general.

The response from the industry this week has been something to be proud of, from every job role, the resilience shines through and I can only hope that as we get further into the rabbit hole that is COVID-19, we don’t lose sparkle.

We’ll see what next week brings, but for now you can catch up on this week’s latest.

A funny kind of whiskey

First up distilleries across the US have been slowing production of whiskey and ramping up that of hand sanitizer, aiding the safety of front line COVID-19 workers.

This is all being supported by the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, who are working in conjunction with Congress to lessen the financial difficulties faced by distillers in creating this sanitizer from their undenatured ethanol.

Whisky Live London 



Following UK government and Public Health England advice Whisky Live London, which was due to be held on March 27 & 28, is postponed until later in the year. We will confirm new dates as soon as they have been set.

A positive move from Jack Rose

Washington D.C.-based Jack Rose has started to sell vintage bottles, cocktails and drams in order to keep paying its staff. Founder Bill Thomas thanked the mayor’s quick thinking, which has enabled the bar to bring in sales from ‘to-go’ food and drink purchases. You can find out the full story here.
